Abstract

If you’re like me, you have gotten a new computerwith a bigger, more powerful hard drive in the lastfew months or perhaps you have updated your oldsystem. You probably have more and more files storedon your system. Finding a specific file or documentcan sometimes be a hard, time-consuming task. Withincreased storing of digital files such as pictures andmusic, your hard drive gets more and more clutteredand files may get lost. Even though Microsoft hasincluded a find function (ctrl f) on software packagessuch as Exchange, Outlook, Word, and Excel, I havefound that when I search for documents or e-mails Ifrequently get the lost-file message: “Search complete. There are no files to display.” To help you locate filesthat you know are there, but cannot find, a number ofsoftware vendors now offer products to find the filesthat, for whatever reason, you have lost.
