In the 1820s, Sequoyah developed a writing system for the Cherokeelanguage, which was to become the most famous of the indigenousNative American alphabets. The system is based on syllables ratherthan letters, so that each symbol represents a vowel or a consonantplus a vowel. The syllabary is a table of these symbols.Downloads
